Today
's
society just doesn'
t seem to stress the
value of family togetherness anymore, but it doesn'
t mean that doing things
as a family isn't
as important, and just as much fun as it was when you were
growing up. It doesn'
t necessarily mean
that you have to plan to go away together every weekend;
it can simply be a matter of taking the time to talk to
one another, get to know each other, and be there when a
family member needs support.
Modern
families are extremely fast-paced and mobile, with both
parents usually working, and children getting involved in
a number of extracurricular activities, even at young ages.
This limits the time that a family has to come together,
and therefore makes the opportunities of family togetherness
all the more important.
If
schedules change every day, and there simply isn'
t a moment that everyone
is home at the same time, a family meeting may be the option.
A family meeting can be scheduled in advance, and can give
your family the time to gather and talk as a family. Your
children will be able to express themselves, and to learn
many of life's
lessons from each other and from you.
However,
family together time needn'
t be so structured.
It can simply be a matter of eating supper together every
evening. This way, you don'
t need to try to schedule
time. You all have to eat, so you may as well eat together,
and use the time to enjoy each other'
s company.
There are many other benefits that you can achieve through
family discussions and family together time. These include:
- Solving disagreements
- Enhancing open communication within the family
- Sharing family values
- Problem solving
- Many other valuable benefits
You
'll
find that the more time you spend together, the more time
you'll
want to spend together, as you'
ll get used to having
each other around, and having the group'
s support and wisdom
to help out each member.
